NDIS for Elderly Australians: Understanding Your Support Options

Can You Get NDIS If You Are Over 65?

Navigating disability support can get confusing as you get older, particularly regarding the cut-off age for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The short answer depends entirely on when you first entered the scheme. If you became an approved NDIS participant before turning 65, you are generally allowed to choose to remain on the NDIS and keep receiving your funding as you age. However, if you develop a disability or require new support after you turn 65, you will usually be directed to access services through the Commonwealth aged care system—such as My Aged Care—rather than the NDIS.
